└──────── Blue Wave / QWK offline mail door for Renegade 05-11 ────────┘
INTRODUCTION
RENEWAVE is a Blue Wave and QWK compatible offline mail door for
Renegade version 10-05 Exp and later. RENEWAVE has been successfully
tested with this version, and should also work with any future versions
provided Renegade's data file formats do not change.
This file is a quick documentation of the RENEWAVE install process. The
install program is fairly straight forward and easy to use, and new
installations do not require you to do anything special. If you are
upgrading from a previous version, please make sure you read
WHATSNEW.200 carefully before upgrading.
SUPPORT
We currently have a Fido echo available for support of all MatrixSoft
products. The tag name is MS_SUPPORT, and you can pick it up from any
sysop who currently carries the echo and is willing to give you a feed
(or us, or any of our beta sites, naturally). The echo will also be
gated to an Internet mailing list sometime in the near future. If we
get enough support for this echo, we'll attempt to put it on the Fido
Zone 1 backbone - but we can't do this until we get enough sysops
carrying the echo as possible.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Your system must meet the following requirements in order for ReneWave
to run correctly:
Memory
├ required 300k per node
└ recommended 325k per node
Disk space
├ installation 800k
├ post-installation 1 meg + data + temporary work space
└ recommended 5+ megs at least
SHARE or operating-system equivalent (for multinode setups).
Renegade v5-11 Exp (1996) or Renegade v10-05 Exp (1994) or
compatible. Any other versions of Renegade may be incompatible.
UPGARDING FROM RENEWAVE v1.xx
If you are currently have ReneWave v1.00 or v1.01 installed, this
section applies to you. First of all, in order to run ReneWave v2.00,
you must be running Renegade v10-05 or later, as mentioned in the
requirements section.
The most important thing to note is that INSTALL.EXE will NOT upgrade
your v1.xx setup to v2.00. You MUST re-install the door from scratch.
You may copy over any menu and display files, but do not attempt to have
INSTALL.EXE update your current copy of the door -- you will definately
run into problems.
When installing this version, we highly recommend renaming your old
ReneWave v1.xx directory to something else. Even better, you may want
to simply delete your old ReneWave directory entirely with DELTREE
(assuming you have not customized any of your menus and help files).
Either way, once this is done, you should follow the installation
instructions (see below), and install ReneWave v2.00 into a brand new
directory -- this will ensure that you don't run into any problems
installing the door, and that evrything works properly when you first
run it.
If you have registered ReneWave, you will need to re-enter your
registration information (the same way as before) after upgrading to
this version.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
(1) Create a temporary directory anywhere on your hard drive, and
extract the RWAVE200.ZIP archive into this directory. Ensure that
the following files are present:
FILE_ID.DIZ ┬ Product description information
DESC.SDI ┘
INSTALL.EXE - ReneWave installation program
INSTALL.RW - ReneWave installation archive
INSTALL.DOC - ReneWave installation documentation
WHATSNEW.200 - What's new in this version
If all of these files do not exist in the archive, then your copy of
RENEWAVE is not the original distribution archive, and has been
modified. If this is the case, we suggest obtaining a new copy.
(2) Change to the directory you extracted the distribution archive to in
step #1, and Type "INSTALL.EXE" to run the install program.
(3) Select "New Installation" if this is the first time you've setup
RENEWAVE on your system. If you are upgrading from a previous
version, or re-installing your current copy, select "Upgrade", and
INSTALL will only overwrite RENEWAVE's executables, samples, and
documentation, but not any of it's data files.
********************************************************************
IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM A PREVIOUS VERSION OF RENEWAVE, MAKE SURE
YOU READ THE WHATSNEW.<ver#> FILE BEFORE CONTINUING!
********************************************************************
(4) If you wish to install RENEWAVE in a directory other than the default
of "C:\RENEWAVE\", enter the directory.
(5) Select "The above paths are acceptable". INSTALL will auto-
matically unpack RENEWAVE's data files, and configure the door with
the default setup.
The installation process is now complete. You should now refer to
RENEWAVE.DOC in the C:\RENEWAVE\DOCS\ directory for information on how
to set up RENEWAVE in Renegade so that your users can access the BBS,
and for documentation of RWSETUP, RENEWAVE's setup program, which you
can use to configure RENEWAVE to suit your preferences.
